The Most Delicious Fried Foods Around The World

The most delicious fried foods around the world

Not all fried foods can be mentioned in a single story, but there's plenty to get you started.

Jalebi (India)

The Indian jalebi is related to the Middle Eastern fried zulbiya and zalabiya, which are thin fried batter rounds that first made their way across trade routes during t he mediaeval era. For a chewy-crunchy texture, the batter is piped into the oil through a muslin cloth and then dipped in sugar syrup.

Churros (Spain, Portugal and Latin America)

Churros

These ridged pastry sticks, which originated in Spain and Portugal, are a sweet favourite for breakfast or snacking throughout Latin America.
To give the churro its signature shape, the batter is piped into hot oil through a star-shaped tip. Churros are frequently dipped in café con leche, hot chocolate, or dulce de leche and dusted with cinnamon sugar.

Cronut (United States)

Cronut

Cronuts, a modern twist on the traditional doughnut, became the name on everyone's lips in the United States nearly a decade ago.
This croissant-doughnut hybrid was introduced in 2013 by pastry chef Dominique Ansel at his New York City bakery and has inspired many imitators. The flaky, puffy pastry is filled with flavoured cream and then glazed.

Fried green tomatoes (United States)

Though they're most commonly associated with the South, fried green tomatoes originated in the Midwest. Recipes for this method of turning unripe tomatoes into a culinary confection can be found in late-nineteenth-century Ohio community cookbooks as well as Jewish immigrant cookbooks.

Fried green tomatoes are an American classic in any form. Before frying, they can be dunked in cornmeal batter or breaded with flour, cornmeal, or cracker crumbs.

Belgian fries (Belgium) and French fries (France)

French fries

The origins and history of French fries have been debated between Belgium and France, but the method of making pommes de terre frites has evolved from haute cuisine to a fast-food icon beloved worldwide.
According to legend, the name refers to the technique of frenching, or thinly slicing vegetables (in this case, potatoes) so that all pieces cook evenly. French fries go with almost everything, whether served alongside steak or burgers, with ketchup or mayonnaise, or topped with cheese and gravy.

Pakora (India)

Pakora

Pakora is a catch-all term for a variety of Indian vegetable fritters made with ingredients ranging from potatoes and eggplant to cabbage and spinach.

These fritters, traditionally made with a type of chickpea flour known as besan flour, can vary in shape and size depending on the vegetables used. Bread pakora is made by dipping slices of bread in batter and deep frying them, often with vegetables like potatoes stuffed between the slices.

Fried chicken (Korean and American)

There are numerous ways to prepare chicken, but two of the most popular (and crunchy) are American and Korean fried chicken.
The thick and craggy crust of American fried chicken is a result of dredging buttermilk-marinated chicken pieces in seasoned flour to build up the coating. Korean fried chicken has a thin, crispy batter coating that is double-fried for extra crunch before being coatedin a gochujang-honey sauce.

Leche frita (Spain)

A popular northern Spanish street food is leche frita, or fried milk. Milk is combined with flour and sugar to make a thick custard, which is then chilled until firm. The custard is cut into cubes and fried after being dredged in flour and eggs. The addition of cinnamon and sugar to the leche frita cubes makes it a sweeter treat.

Katsu (Japan)

In Japan, katsu is the go-to dish for crunchy fried chicken. These panko-breaded cutlets are a popular side dish for many meals, especially when served with rice or curry. A classic accompaniment is katsu sauce, a sweet and tart fruity sauce. Tonkatsu, in addition to chicken katsu, refers to a fried pork cutlet, while gyukatsu is the beef version.
